This group was launched on New Year’s Eve 2004, originally under the name Fifty+/-Fun. We meet once a term for social activities, and alternate between day trips and evening functions. It is a time for maintaining existing relationships and building new ones across all congregations. It is also a great opportunity for newcomers to meet others in the age group, and a place where we can invite our non-Church friends.
We have visited places such as Cowra, Wellington, Yeoval, Manildra, Abercrombie, Lithgow, Parkes, Carcoar, Canowindra, Sofala, Millthorpe and Oberon, visiting Gardens, museums, historical sites, caves, and tourist attractions to name a few. We’ve also enjoyed picnics at these outings. Other places we’ve visited are farms and orchards in Orange, as well as making new discoveries in our own backyard, and enjoyed gentle hikes.
A popular outing is to share a meal— in restaurants, BBQs, and dinners in people’s homes. The workload is kept to a minimum as everyone is asked to contribute to the tantalising dishes. We have engaged in physical activities including ten pin bowling, and more sedentary armchair activities such as going to the movies. Because of the varied activities, people can choose what best suits them, knowing that it will always include great fellowship and friendship.
